In Yesterdays 3ds Max Quicktip we spoke about how to change the end frame number quickly within your aniamtion timeline. Today we will look at the changing the start frame, from the default 0. Changing the start frame from 0 is a useful thing to do, especially when running particle effects, dynamic simulations or tweaking animations, as you will often require the animation to be started for extra believability when rendering effects like motionblur. (or saving motionblur channels for post effects)

When using the animation timeline its common to want to change the number of frames from the default 100. The way in which people normally do this is by clicking on the ‘Timeline configuration’ icon (shown below.) This opens a secondary floating window, giving you access to a numerical input field. However, this does slow down your workflow if you just want to quickly add some extra frames.

An easier way to do this, without having to open, amend and close a floating window, is by using the following key and mouse combination.
